Access to unmetered, dark fibre is of paramount concern for all Post-Secondary Institutes (PSI) in Alberta. A physical, high-speed connection is a prerequisite for meaningful collaboration amongst PSIs in higher-level services including: BCP/DRP infrastructure and services, shared data centre services, shared ERP, shared LMS, Internet bandwidth and a litany of others.
Some institutes are in the fortunate position to be able to take advantage of parallel infrastructure projects taking place in the urban centres of Edmonton and Calgary. Specifically, it is possible to use city provided fibre or city provided pathway to connect PSIs that are in reasonable vicinity of city infrastructure.
It is proposed that these connections be made and extend CyberaNet to MacEwan University, Mount Royal University and NAIT.
Cybera would operate the connections to the logical demarcation point within each institute.
Project closed in Fall 2015.
