The Alberta Association in Higher Education for Information Technology

The Alberta Association in Higher Education for Information Technology (AAHEIT) is a not-for-profit association whose members include all 26 publicly-funded colleges, universities and technical institutes in Alberta. AAHEIT was formed to provide leadership in technology solutions, to share knowledge and best practices, and to enable efficiencies and strategic benefits through system-wide projects and provincial licensing agreements.

Member Benefits

  • Volume licensing agreements negotiated by AAHEIT, result in millions of dollars of avoided costs through software purchases to members.
  • AAHEIT provides a liaison role among Alberta’s post-secondary institutions and with the Alberta Ministry of Advanced Education to communicate system challenges, needs, and technology solutions.
  • Meetings of the members are coordinated to foster sharing of information initiatives and opportunities across IT departments at Alberta’s PSIs.
  • AAHEIT stewards member’s project initiatives through the lifecycle of shared IT projects from ideation to completion, inclusive of managing and accounting for the disbursement of funds to PSIs.

The consortium started in 1991 as the Alberta Colleges and Technical Institutes Consortium (ACTIC) to take advantage of and extend a vendor deal to multiple institutions in Alberta. Since that time we have added to our vendor agreements and performed a number of projects for our members' benefit. In February 2005, we were incorporated as an association under the Society's Act of Alberta. Our new name, Alberta Association in Higher Education for Information Technology, reflects our mandate to address IT issues for the higher education sector.
